The story behind the work.

BEYOND THE STAGE

“I believe that we are here to do two things: to love and to work! The very fact that we see them as oppositional is wild to me and it’s my mission to change that!”

CHAPTER 01

Chelsea grew up in the Midwest, where the values are straightforward and the winters are not. Community wasn't a buzzword where she came from. It was just what people did. Neighbors showed up for each other. Everyone knew everyone's name. And there was a shared understanding, never stated but always felt, that people are simply better together than apart. That upbringing planted something in her that no MBA could have: a deep, stubborn belief that the way we treat each other at work is a moral question, not just a management one.

Midwest Roots

CHAPTER 02

Early in her HR career, Chelsea led through one of the most emotionally charged experiences a people leader can face: a union organizing campaign and contract negotiation at General Mills largest manufacturing plant in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. An exceptional plant leader had built something rare: a culture so grounded in genuine care that people loved coming to work. Then came standardization: the slow, well-intentioned flattening of everything that had made that plant feel like theirs. The employees organized to protect what they'd built. Chelsea didn't just manage a process. She held people through one of the hardest moments of their working lives. That experience rewired how she understood leadership entirely.

General Mills: The Era That Changed Everything

CHAPTER 03

Chelsea stepped into one of the most complex HR roles imaginable: leading the people strategy for a private holding company with over 35 brands under one roof. Different industries, different cultures, different challenges. One Chelsea. What she learned: the fundamentals of human-centered leadership don't change based on the industry or the brand on the door. People want the same things everywhere: to be seen, to do meaningful work, to feel like they belong somewhere.

Leading at Scale

CHAPTER 04

Chelsea looked at everything she'd built for other organizations and thought: what if she built something for herself? Versed HR is her boutique HR consulting practice, built for public sector and non-profit organizations. And then there's the speaking, the coaching, the think tanks. She's not done building. Not even close.
